DDH develops initiatives promoting employmente

1933 - 1945

In the light of the economic crisis during the 1930s, DDH’s activities developed towards work that promoted social and employment initiatives for the benefit of society.

Extra governmental subsidies were granted if the unemployed were used for cultivation of the bogs and peat production, marling, establishment of dykes, drainage and planting.

With regard to planting, this activity became known as The Flying Corps, which carried out extensive shelter belt planting, and similar activity took place in the plantation area.

During the war DDH played an important role as the directorate concerned with peat production since the company administered the state’s establishment and operating loans for peat production. The company also carried out testing of the peat’s calorific value with respect to fixing prices for the peat. In DDH ’s Laboratory – which was set up in 1910 - analyses of peat and lignite (brown coal) became major activities.
