Alternative solutions in Allerød Partnering between Allerød municipality and DDH Consulting A/S as consultants and NCC as contractor has meant both a high level of efficiency and several alternative solutions in the task of renovating the municipal sewage system.
One example was the renovation of a section of pipe buried 5 m. down, which normally would mean an extensive and expensive excavation. Based on geological exploration, the three partners decided instead to attempt a controlled underdrilling, where new pipes are pulled through the old ones with almost no excavation. The risk was that the underdrilling would fail, and the costs of underdrilling be wasted. In spite of some difficulty, the underdrilling succeeded, so that one of the major items of expenditure in the whole project was considerably reduced, based on close cooperation and trust between partners. |
