Remediation of contaminated sites

If a contaminated site poses a risk for humans or the environment, a complete or partial cleanup of the site can be the most appropriate solution.

Orbicon carries out planning, design, supervision and monitoring on cleanup projects for both public and private developers.

Simple or more complicated solutions

Our solutions range from simply excavating surface soils contaminated by heavy metals or PAH compounds to more complicated excavation of contaminated material containing i.e. chlorinated solvents, requiring sheet piling or lowering the water table to considerable depth, etc.

We also design many different types of in-situ remediation schemes without excavation, including biological solutions like reductive dechlorination, where bacterial starter cultures might be added to the soil, as well as solutions based on the physical removal of contaminants, for example by combining steam injection with pumping air and water from the soil.

Planning and projection

When planning a remediation programme, we carry out a technical review and make an estimate of the costs of possible alternative options. If the client so wish, we also carry out the detailed design and tender material for the selected remediation.

Inspection and follow-up

Once the remediation has started, we monitor implementation and any operation of technical plants in connection with the remediation.

Finally, we suggest programmes to estimate and document the effect of the remediation to be used in reporting to the authorities.
