Orbicon has together with Wageningen DCI (lead) and the Carpathian Eco-Region Initiative carried out the project. The overall objective of the project was to strengthen the capacities of the Carpathian Eco-Region Network (CERI) and to support the implementation of the Carpathian Convention. This can be done through the development of a proposal for a coherent transboundary ecological network. During the project, the following outputs were achieved:
Increased understanding of the CERI members on the principles and methods for ecological network development and implementation (Natura 2000, Emerald, PEEN).
Joint Carpathian Biodiversity Information System as a base for developing a transborder ecological network.
Proposal for a Carpathian ecological network with existing protected areas, Natura 2000 sites and high conservation value forests as core areas linked through a network of ecological corridors.
Strengthened organisational structure and capacities of CERI to support the implementation of the Carpathian Convention and to support sustainable development in the Carpathians.
