Orbicon has carried out the project together with Wageningen DCI [link: www.cdic.wur.nl] (lead), Ecolibri Bionet [link: www.ecolibribionet.co.rs] and the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia. The main objective of the project was to protect the wetlands along the Danube through adaptive management. The Bukinski rit floodplain area was used as a pilot on capacity building in integrated management planning in a transborder context. The achieved project outputs included:
Field inventories and analyses of Natura 2000 habitat types and selected species together with modeling of water flow and water levels.
An integrated management plan for the Bukinski rit with recommendations for improving nature protection, water management, forestry practices, zonation and management structure.
Capacity building and proposal for improving the organisational management structures on the aspects of nature protection, hydrology, responsible forestry, hunting and agriculture.
Also the project contributed with awareness raising activities improving transborder coordination with Croatian counterpart, especially on NGO, local users and community level.
