Site inspections

Confirm or disprove suspicion of pollution!

Is a site polluted, and if so, how serious is it, and what chemicals are involved?

Orbicon helps confirm or disprove suspicion of soil pollution, so that the property owner can clarify the possible environmental and economic consequences.

Historical inspection

Historical inspection involves examining relevant historical material from building archives, official environmental case archives, etc. and available general geological knowledge of the area.

Technical inspection

On-site technical inspection typically includes drilling at possible sources revealed in the archive search.

In connection with drilling, soil samples are taken, and filters installed in the bore holes to collect samples of groundwater and the pollution content of soil air.

These samples are analysed for the substances we estimate may be present in the soil, based on our knowledge of the field and of pervious activities on the site. Analyses are normally carried out by accredited laboratories.

Inspection results

We report the results of our inspection in an easily comprehended form, with sketches showing the positions of pollution sources, the extent of spreading found, installations on the site, etc., thus offering the best possible basis for deciding whether or not cleanup is necessary.

Based on these results, we can prepare risk evaluations for both groundwater and drinking water [link: Water resources] as well as land use.

A wide range of inspection methods

We have years of experience in a wide range of methods of pollution inspection, such as:

  • The environmental history of a site
  • Drafting inspections
  • Charting inspection of property in accordance with laws on soil pollution.
  • Inspection of properties in connection with real estate deals.
  • Inspection and pilot tests of specific cleanup options.
