In association with Vakakis International SA, Symond Travers Morgan Orbicon was responsible for the implementation and execution of the “Phongsaly Forest Conservation and Rural Development Project” (ALA/94/22) in Northern Laos. Orbicon provided 1 long term Forestry Specialist as well as several short term inputs. The overall objective was to improve the living standards and quality of life for rural based communities. This was achieved through self help interventions for rural and economic development aimed at enhancing productivity from sustainable management of the natural resources. The immediate objectives included institutional strengthening at provincial and community level for the rational use of the natural resources. This involved natural resource (forest) conservation, biodiversity protection and the introduction of sustainable management at the local community level. Total Contract Sum ECU 9,500,000.
